Background

FOH Future Of Health is a dynamic collective of senior leaders from top health organizations worldwide. Harnessing the shared vision and collective expertise of its members, FOH aims to influence, transform, and shape the future of health.

Challenge

Published DateMarch 18th, 2026

In many healthcare settings, the physician-patient encounter is longer than necessary and often inefficient, creating avoidable pressure on clinicians and reducing the quality of the experience for patients. Administrative tasks, fragmented information, repetitive questioning, documentation burdens, and unclear communication workflows can consume valuable consultation time that should be focused on clinical decision-making and personalized care. This challenge is aimed at innovators, health system leaders, digital health experts, workflow designers, and care delivery teams who can propose practical ways to streamline the encounter without compromising empathy, safety, or outcomes. The issue is especially important in environments facing growing demand, limited staffing, and rising complexity of care, where physician overload contributes directly to burnout, lower productivity, and reduced system resilience. FOH Future Of Health is seeking solutions that can improve efficiency, reduce friction, and support more meaningful interactions between doctors and patients.

Challenge Objectives

Success will mean that the physician-patient encounter becomes consistently focused, clinically meaningful, and operationally efficient across routine care settings. In the desired end state, physicians spend a greater share of visit time on assessment, decision-making, and relationship-building, while patients experience clearer communication, less repetition, shorter wait and visit times, and greater confidence in next steps. Information needed for care is reliably available within existing workflows, handoffs are smoother across care teams, and documentation and follow-up activities no longer create unnecessary friction or delay. Success will be reflected in measurable reductions in administrative burden, consultation cycle time, avoidable rework, and clinician stress, alongside improvements in patient satisfaction, continuity, throughput, and quality of interaction. The outcome should fit naturally into current organizational roles, systems, and operating models so that frontline teams can sustain better performance without added complexity. Value should be created at every level: for patients through a more respectful and responsive experience, for clinicians through lower burnout and better use of expertise, and for health systems through greater capacity, resilience, and consistency of care.

Incentives

FOH Future Of Health is prepared to award up to USD 75,000 for the strongest solution, with payments tied to progress and impact. A shortlisted concept may receive USD 10,000-15,000 for validation and pilot planning, while the selected implementation partner may receive the remaining budget for pilot delivery, workflow integration, and measurable results. Additional incentives include exposure to FOH’s global health leadership network, opportunities for pilot adoption, and consideration for longer-term strategic collaboration.
